Assistive Listening Devices

At the Hearing Health Center, we advocate the use of hearing instruments as a remedy for hearing loss; however, people with hearing loss are often in need of other assistive listening devices (ALDs) to further help them hear in certain listening situations.

We have products available that can help in each of these potentially difficult listening situations:

  • Telephone ringing
  • TV or radio
  • Driving in traffic
  • Talking on the telephone
  • On the job
  • Small group discussion
  • At mealtime or around the house
  • Restaurant
  • Party or social gatherings
  • Classrooms
  • Conference or lecture halls
  • Places of worship
  • Movie theater or playhouse
  • Outside hobbies such as bridge or golf
  • Background noise situations

Sometimes, more than a hearing instrument is needed to achieve optimal hearing. Many people do not wear their hearing instruments to sleep and do not hear the smoke alarm, baby crying, a knock on the front door, or even the telephone ringing, but Hearing Health Center caries a wide range of alarm alerting devices to assist in hearing all types of important sounds. Certain listening conditions are especially difficult for someone with a hearing loss. ALDs are designed to enhance the signal (speech), making it easier to understand in competing background noise. There are many devices to optimize understanding while watching television, using the telephone, hearing church services, theater, and movies.

Contact the Hearing Health Center to make an appointment, or stop by one of our offices to have ALDs demonstrated to you.
